Ryan,

Just how radical or not may they be?

Im interested in joining the coast guard reserves, but I am not to sure. I spoke to a recruiter but always they tell you how great it is to join the benefits are wonderful, we guarantee your rating and you will fill this particular billet after boot- They also have a special way to turn negatives to positives.

This is a very honorable job and I admire what the Coast Guard has done. Is there any coastie, preferably a non-recruiter (no offense) that can give me suggestions or advice about joining the reserves. This has been on my mind for several months, but before I make my decision I would like to talk to coastie who isn't a recruiter.

My recruiter told me that I can enlist and go to REBI since I have an advanced degree. What is the downfall to REBI and why is it only two weeks? Am I short changed from other recruits who go to 8 week boot-camp? After REBI I will go to my unit where I will work. She said that the rating I choose (SK) would be guaranteed and I will work alongside other SK during weekend drill periods. How does this work if I did not go to A-School? Will I still go to A-SCHOOL? Once again does this change the whole dynamics from those who went to 8 week Boot and directly to A-
School? There is also a chance of me working in other areas of the Coast Guard? How does that work out if I am to be an SK? I understand that the Coast Guard is small and you will have multiple roles. But if Im an SK what else would I be required to do?

Has anyone used their tuition assistance program? What are the risks or is just a benefit for being apart of being in the Coast guard? Can I hear anyone's experience by being in the coast guard.

Thanks in Advance!

Good day ya'll! Now that I have a new project to work on, I'm looking to improve upon it… and have actual users. I am in need of your input- what forums can we make in here and are you going to use em?

Welcome! We are again staring something new here in the domain of CGBlog.org. As you are here you have already noticed the forums, but were not stopping there. We are also staring up a wiki to help in the categorization and streamlining of the U.S. Coast Guard's newest and static information, that is, information that changes very little or not at all. Like the original Wikipedia this can only be done by you, our users. It's simple to sign up, and you don't even have to use your real name (just an valid eMail address). Go here to sign up, it takes less than a minute. ~Joe
